Wandering through the streets of Milan is like taking a surprising, yet intimate, journey through time: in the space of a few steps one can go from the iconic Modernity of the ‘30s and the ‘50s to the ever-changing landscape of projects and people that engage with contemporary fields of creativity. Of this unique blend of modern and contemporary art, design and architecture, miart 2017 is an amplified portrait.

Like the city that hosts it, miart is a fair international in its scope and still scaled to be an enjoyable experience, that brings historical artworks in constant dialogue with current artistic positions, and that sees the aesthetic field as a meeting point of disciplines. I like to say that miart is a fair that build narratives and scenarios, that puts things in perspective. A fair that showcases the contemporary production of art and design by means of their continuity with Post-War Masters.

We spend a year building up these multiple stories in dialogue with international exhibitors and curators, and this is one of the reasons why we want to engage in a deeper dialogue with our audience through the months ahead of the fair, anticipating content and ideas through the platform of the Carnet de miart, of which you are currently reading the first issue.
We all hope that you will enjoy, wandering through the stories of this on-line magazine as you would do through the streets of Milan and the aisles of the fair, getting glimpses of the journey through time that we are preparing for you.

So I invite you to take a moment and indulge at the Carnet de miart in anticipation of welcoming you at miart 2017.

Warmest regards,
Alessandro Rabottini
Artistic Director miart 2017
