The Object Issue

Welcome to this new issue of Carnet de miart!

This issue is dedicated to the Object section, which will explore inspiring collectable design and its expanded field.

For the All-Around miart column, we have talked to Domitilla Dardi, Curator of the Object section as well as Design Curator at MAXXI Museum in Rome, who revealed us the chosen theme for this year (the Ideal Collector) and how the fourteen participating galleries will respond to that. Among the galleries who will re-iterate their participation in Object, we have asked to Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci (Dimore Studio) from Dimoregallery, Nina Yashar from Nilufar, and Luisa Delle Piane to tell us about their experience last year and how they see the relationship between collectable design and art. Since one of the most important novelties of the upcoming edition of this section is the “CEDIT for Object” Prize, we have then talked to Silvana Annicchiarico, Director, Triennale Design Museum, Milan; and Stefano Torrenti, CEO Florim Ceramiche S.p.a., who, together with Deyan Sudjic OBE, Director, Design Museum, London, will award the prize to a design piece realised by an emergent Italian designer.

Featured in the Perspectives column, Narrating Design brought together professionals working in the design field such as Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator for the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMa, New York; Deyan Sudjic OBE, Director at Design Museum, London; Nicoletta Fiorucci, art and design collector as well as founder of the Fiorucci Art Trust, London; and Angela Rui, Design Critic and Curator as well as Curator of the upcoming 25th edition of BIO – The Biennial of Design in Ljubljana; to tell us how, broadly speaking, they are navigating our present times through their institutional role.

With Designing the ‘Good Life’Fabrizio Ballabio has conceived a story about the Milanese osmotic relation between architectural and design practices, explaining how that relation dwells in the Italian fantasy of the ‘Good Life.’

Finally, we have invited Formafantasma (Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin), an Italian designers duo based in Amsterdam, to contribute to the Gestures column with an amazing, downloadable wallpaper.

Keep cool but care,

Alessandro Rabottini, Artistic Director, miart
Nicola Ricciardi, Editor-in-chief, Carnet de miart
